Residents may request to move out early by completing the Early Move-Out form on the housing portal (under Housing Forms). If eligible to move out, an email will be sent to the student’s OU email account providing early move-out instructions.

If you intend to leave the University, you must check out of University housing. Students’ housing contracts are for the academic year, ending in May. To move out before May, please complete* an early move-out request on the housing portal. Eligible students will receive an early move-out approval confirmation providing their checkout instructions and a date for checkout. Students must be moved out by Saturday, December 20 at noon.
Because first-year students are required to live on-campus, their early move-out requests are subject to review and are not guaranteed to be approved.
Students who will continue to be enrolled in spring 2026 must be approved for an early move-out.
Charges for housing and meal plan (if applicable) will continue to accrue until the student completes the required checkout procedures and additional fees may be charged if checkout instructions are not followed. Please review your housing contract’s terms and conditions for more details.

*Exchange students whose program ends fall 2025, students studying abroad in spring 2026, and fall 2025 graduates do not need to complete an early move-out request and will receive an email to their OU email account with specific checkout instructions in December.
