Move-In 2020

We are excited to welcome students to their University home in just a few weeks. While COVID-19 creates unique challenges to our fall plans, OU is taking proactive measures to create an on-campus living experience that is supportive and welcoming.

Important Reminders

  • Complete all Move-In required clearance steps listed below. Don't forget about the online health screening!
  • Arrive at Lloyd Noble Center on your assigned day and time to check-in.
  • Have your mask on before you exit your vehicle.
  • Make your way to the tents on the east side of Lloyd Noble Center.
  • Have your barcode, which was emailed to your OU email account, ready to be scanned.
  • Once your barcode has been scanned and you are cleared to continue the Move-In process, you will enter the building at the east side entrance. To allow for proper social distancing, only incoming residents will be allowed inside the building to proceed through the check-in process.
  • After checking in, you will be guided north to your assigned building.
  • University and Student Services will unload your vehicle and move your items into your room.
  • All residents are limited to two cars and one trip through the full-service Move-In process.

Questions?

The unique process for Move-In the year undoubtedly generates many questions for students and families.

On behalf of OU Housing and Residence Life, thank you for your patience as we continue to address matters presented by the COVID-19 crisis. Today we write with an update on our guest policy during fall 2020 Move-In.

Our initial decision to restrict guests during the Move-In process was based on the following information to keep student and staff health and safety our top priority.

We will have approximately 800 - 1,000 people moving in to on-campus housing each day of Move-In. Adding two family members per resident, plus workers from the provided Move-In service, and OU Housing and Residence Life staff would increase population density during the Move-In process to include an extra 10,000 people in the Residence Halls during our multi-day process. Given that amount of people and the layout of our buildings, this would make practicing successful social distancing difficult for everyone. In addition, this would increase the time it takes to move residents’ items to their room.

Guest Policy for Fall 2020 Move-In
In an effort to balance allowing residents to bring guests into the halls and to ensure minimal interruptions to the Move-In process, OU Housing will implement the following process to allow for one (1) guest per resident to enter residential buildings from 5-9 p.m. on each day of the Move-In process from August 11-15.

  1. Guests will be required to wear masks at all times and abide by the University’s social distancing guidelines. For more information about OU’s mandatory mask requirement, see the OU masking policy.
  2. Residents must accompany their guest at all times while on campus.
  3. Guests exhibiting any symptoms associated with COVID-19 or have been in direct contact in the last 14 days with an individual diagnosed with COVID-19 must not come to campus.

All guests will need to vacate residential buildings by 9 p.m. daily.

Guest Policy for the 2020-2021 Academic Year
Residents are strongly discouraged from having guests in their living spaces this academic year. Each resident is allowed one guest that must remain with them at all times. A “guest” is any non-resident of the floor and/or building. All guests should exit the hall and/or building by midnight daily during the academic year.

  • No overnight guests are allowed in the Residence Halls.
  • Guests should remain in lobbies and wear PPE.

OU Housing and Residence Life will update residents as needed throughout the year.

If you have any questions, contact our office at (405) 325-2511 or housinginfo@ou.edu. Thank you for your patience.

Assistant Dean of Students and Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life

To help protect the health of our entire campus community, all students who will be moving into OU Housing on the Norman campus will be required to complete the following three-step process to gain clearance to move in:

  1. Complete an at-home COVID-19 test. OU has partnered with Vault Health to mail students an at-home saliva-based COVID-19 test to complete in advance of their arrival to campus. Students will receive an email during the week of July 20 with full details and instructions on how to submit their COVID-19 test during OU's two-day testing window of August 4-5 for the Residence Halls and the Residential Colleges and August 10-11 for Traditions Square. Testing kits will be mailed and administered at no cost to students.
  2. Receive a negative COVID-19 test result. Test results will be emailed to students and to OU Health Services up to four days after their test arrives at the Vault Health lab.
  3. Complete the University's online health screening five days prior to their return to campus. They must complete this step regardless of their COVID-19 test result.

Students are strongly encouraged to self-isolate after they are tested and before they arrive on campus.

Students WILL be allowed to proceed through OU Housing's Move-In process if:
  • A negative COVID-19 test result has been received by the University AND
  • They completed the University's online health screening and are cleared to return to campus

Students WILL NOT be allowed to proceed through OU Housing's Move-In process if:

  • Any of the above-mentioned three steps have not been completed OR
  • A positive or inconclusive COVID-19 test result has been received by the University OR
  • The student completed the University's online health screening and is denied from returning to campus

Pending completion of the above-mentioned three-step process, residents of Adams, Couch and Walker Towers, David L. Boren Hall and Dunham and Headington Colleges will move-in August 11-14. Specific Move-In day and time assignments have been sent to students' OU email accounts.

All Move-in assignments are structured to enhance social distancing protocols. Because of this, students must arrive on their assigned date and during their assigned arrival window. If they cannot arrive at their assigned date and time, they should contact OU Housing to schedule a Move-In appointment time.

Move-In Process and Guidelines

  • On their assigned Move-In day, they must arrive at the Lloyd Noble Center at their assigned Move-In time.
  • After they arrive at the Lloyd Noble Center, enter the building at the east side entrance. Only incoming residents will be allowed inside the building.
  • Once inside, they will be directed to the appropriate stations to complete the necessary steps for check-in.
Move-In Service: OU has partnered with University and Student Services to provide a full-service move-in for students living in the Residence Halls and the Residential Colleges. After they check-in at the Lloyd Noble Center, volunteers will guide them north to the residential area of campus. Once they arrive at their assigned building, University and Student Services will unload their vehicle and move all of their items into their room for them.

  • This service will only be available to them on their specific Move-In day and time.
  • Students who do not check in on their assigned Move-In day forfeit the move-in service. This includes students who schedule appointments outside of the assigned Move-In days.
  • All incoming residents are limited to two cars and one trip through the full-service Move-In process.

Guests in the Residence Halls

In the interest of protecting the health of our residents and staff, guests will not be allowed access to the Residence Halls or the Residential Colleges during Move-In. We understand this will disappoint many students and families, and we are working to create a meaningful farewell experience for students and their families in an outdoor location on campus. Please understand that our top priority is to provide the healthiest possible on-campus living environment for our students.

Masking Required
Masks must be worn at all times throughout the Move-In process. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own, but masks will be made available. For more information about OU's mandatory mask requirement, see the OU masking policy.

All Move-In assignments are structured to enhance social distancing protocols. Because of this, students must arrive on their assigned date and during their assigned arrival window.

Residence Hall Amenities

Students moving into Adams, Couch or Walker Centers can choose to have their beds lofted, bunked or remain two separate twin beds.

The deadline to request your bed be lofted or bunked prior to Move-In has passed. Bed setup requests and adjustments now need to be submitted through the maintenance request form and will not begin until AFTER the second week of classes. Please discuss these bed options with your roommate before completing this form. If roommates submit conflicting requests, the requests will not be honored.
