OU Partners with TELUS Health for 24/7 Mental Health Support

The University of Oklahoma is prioritizing the mental well-being of its students by entering a partnership with TELUS Health. Effective Feb. 12, all Norman-based students will have 24/7 access to professional, on-demand counseling services, representing a significant enhancement to the university’s commitment to student support.

This innovative collaboration will benefit students by providing a comprehensive range of mental health resources, including virtual counseling sessions, mental health assessments, crisis text support and educational materials. The aim is to ensure students can seek mental health support with real-time option for assistance.

“The University Counseling Center will continue doing the great work they are currently doing and will still serve as the primary resource for intake and evaluation of student mental health needs; this partnership is an added layer to how we support our students’ mental well-being,” said David Surratt, Ed.D., vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students.

In an era where immediate, on-demand services are increasingly vital, this collaboration empowers students with an additional avenue for mental health support.

Scott Miller, Ph.D., Director of the University Counseling Center and Chair of the Norman Campus Behavior Intervention Team is thankful for this partnership.

“The university’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for students is evident in this strategic collaboration with TELUS Health,” said Miller. “We believe that by offering these services, we can provide better student mental health support.”

As OU strives to cultivate an environment that prioritizes the holistic well-being of its students, this collaboration with TELUS Health serves as an example of progress. By embracing cutting-edge technology, the university aims to not only meet the evolving needs of its student community but also foster an atmosphere where mental health is a top priority.

“As we embark on this transformative journey, we encourage students to take advantage of these new resources,” said Surratt. “The goal is to foster a campus environment where every student feels supported and equipped to navigate the challenges of academic and personal life.”
