Mat Maker Project

Mat Maker Project

Born out of the Office of Leadership & Volunteerism, the OU Mat Maker Project, now an official Registered Student Organization (RSO), works to take waste and turn it into wonder.

We have continued to collect plastic bags and are in need of volunteers to begin to create easy-to-carry mats for distribution through a local nonprofit.

With the plastic bags we recycle, we create "plarn". This plastic yarn is then weaved through a weaving board to eventually create a bed. Each bed takes about 200-300 bags and about 2 hours to make. This is a great organization to be apart of if you are wanting to learn manual dexterity and help out your community!
