To bring us more in line with the Norman Programs and to take advantage of a modern, dynamic platform.

The IT Executive Steering Committee (ITESC) tasked the Teaching and Learning Technologies Advisory Committee (TLTAC) to manage the transition and align us as one university under the Canvas LMS that the Norman programs have utilized since 2016.

There are many benefits to HSC programs moving to Canvas.  One is the continuity of experience for students and faculty across the university.  Another is having a university system-level LMS that will be more easily managed and supported across all programs.  We will have a more extensive LMS support system across all campuses.

You can start using it right now!  Log into https://canvas.ou.edu with your HSC credentials and start exploring.  You may see Fall 2023 courses listed for you and can begin exploring how to do things.

Absolutely!  On-demand training is available inside Canvas via the Help button within the Global Navigation in Canvas.  Workshops and one-on-one training will be available by appointment (coming soon).  We have a curated list we think is an excellent place to start available on our website under Faculty Resources and Training

Want to schedule something for your department or college?  Use the Contact Us button and send us your details!

We have also deployed Canvas Teaching Fellows to assist colleges with the transition. The CTF will help with training, one-on-one consultations, and other tasks associated with the transition.

There is a self-enroll Canvas Resources for Faculty & Staff course also available.  Visit the following link https://link.ou.edu/canvasresource and begin working through Canvas how-to content in a course setting.

You can also download the Getting Started with Canvas for Instructors guide that highlights some Important practices to setting up your Canvas course.

We have a Passport to Canvas for students in Canvas so that students can self-enroll and learn the basics of using Canvas.   To self-enroll, students can click this link -  https://link.ou.edu/canvaspassport.

We also have a Getting Started with Canvas document for students that can be downloaded by clicking this link:  Getting Started with Canvas for Students PDF.

Students may utilize the HELP menu in the global navigation once inside Canvas to chat, submit a problem, or locate the Canvas support hotline number.

We will be migrating content from D2L this summer utilizing a vendor partner.  The courses from Fall 2021 through Spring 2024 will be migrated with a system allowing us a very close one-to-one delivery that will assist faculty/staff with minimal updates necessary to go live with content in Canvas.

UPDATE:

January 2024:   Beginning with the Fall 2021 through Fall 2023 D2L courses, we have migrated over 2,300 courses from D2L to Canvas.

*Spring 2024 courses will begin migrating from D2L to Canvsa the week of May 13, 2024.

You should see this migrated course in Canvas if you were listed as an instructor in the D2L course.  The migrated courses will have the same titles they had in D2L and will be associated with those past semesters.  In Canvas, the semesters look like HSC Fall 2021, HSC Spring 2022, etc.

Be sure to go into Canvas and click Courses and then the All Courses page to locate the full list of courses that are associated with your account.

If you do not see any older courses, please submit a ticket using the Contact Us button at the bottom of the page.  Please provide the link to the D2L course you feel should have been migrated for you, and we'll look into it.  In most cases, its a matter of simply adding you to the course in Canvas.

We recommend speaking to your college or department leadership to learn more about the department or college's plan for transitioning to Canvas.

Yes, you can release final grades from Canvas to PeopleSoft. Please review this article:

Canvas - Releasing Grades to PeopleSoft

Primary instructors listed in PeopleSoft will be automatically added to Canvas courses just as they are in D2L.  You can manually add other instructors, staff, etc.. to your courses as needed.   You may NOT add students manually to courses.  Student enrollment must come through PeopleSoft.

For more information on adding other people to your Canvas courses, please review this OU IT knowledgebase article: https://itsupport.ou.edu/TDClient/30/Unified/KB/ArticleDet?ID=411

Any continuing education courses that utilize what we call "external users" in Brightspace by D2L will remain using D2L throughout 2023 as we investigate the best way to offer this same service in Canvas.  If you have questions about your CE or other community courses, please use the Contact Us link below.
