Dr. Prue Smith is an Associate Professor in the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy, where she holds the Chevron Centennial Professorship and serves as Director of the Irani Center for Energy Solutions. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dr. Smith brings over a decade of industry experience to her role, with deep expertise in hydraulic fracturing, stimulation design, and reservoir characterization.

Before joining academia, Dr. Smith held several technical and leadership roles working for BP in the energy industry, most recently as a Senior Fracture and Stimulation Specialist, where she led the design and execution of fracpack completions across the Gulf of Mexico.

Her prior roles include Completions Engineer for the Atlantis project and Technical Specialist on BP’s Central Team, where she authored internal best practices, contributed to Class VI well design for carbon capture and storage (CCUS) projects, conducted diagnostic fracture injection test (DFIT) analyses, and developed geomechanical models to optimize hydraulic fracturing treatments globally. Her work supported projects in North America, the North Sea, Middle East, and Asia, contributing to significant cost-saving and resource-optimization efforts.

Dr. Smith is currently teaching the senior capstone course and her ongoing research will focus on completions and hydraulic fracturing design.
