Complete Your Study Abroad 101 Requirement at NSO!

Study Abroad 101 is a required session for all students who plan to study abroad during their time at OU. You can conveniently fulfill this requirement during New Sooner Orientation! By attending Study Abroad 101 at NSO, you'll be entered into a raffle for a $500 study abroad scholarship! At the end of the summer, two students will win and can apply the scholarship toward their future study abroad program.

Part of your academic journey and success is having a plan in place to pay for college. Our MidFirst MoneyCoaches are here to help you. During this time, you will receive information on FERPA, billing, bursar, scholarship requirements, and helpful tips. After, our MidFirst MoneyCoaches will walk you and your family through your individual financial success plan and how to utilize this free tool! This is a great time to ask questions and secure your plan, as a family, for paying for OU.

During this time students will be welcomed to their academic college, meet with academic advisors, and get enrolled for their first semester of classes at OU. Our team of advisors will review your final high school transcripts, concurrent/dual work, AP/IB/CLEP courses and help advise you for the courses you need in your first semester as you work toward degree completion. These advisors are equipped to help guide you toward your academic goals, help curate a schedule, and assist you. At the end of this appointment, you will walk away with your first semester class schedule.

Guests are not allowed to attend this appointment and will have specific programming during this time while students are getting advised and enrolled. It is imperative students prepare accordingly by bringing final transcripts, scores, and completing any required assessments PRIOR to NSO.

At OU, we recognize that a student’s success is contingent not only upon them, but their community. And more often than not, that starts with their supporters, family, and guardians. In this session you’ll hear from our Director of Parent & Family Programs, Tracy Carlson, on the ins and outs of supporting for your student at OU.

Additionally, we will host a Q&A with campus partners to talk about housing, advising, health care, and other resources for your students. Parents and families will have the opportunity to learn about the resources, best practices, and events related to their new student and transition to OU. Whether your student is a first-generation college goer or a fifth generation Sooner, it’s important to know when, where and how to best communicate and assist in navigating your student’s tenure at their new home - the University of Oklahoma.

At OU, we believe your journey begins with a vision of who you’ll become—and we’re here to help you get there. In this interactive session, professional staff and Orientation Interns will guide students and their supporters through what it truly takes to thrive in college and beyond. Together, we’ll explore how stepping out of your comfort zone, building meaningful community, asking for help, and dreaming big from day one can shape your Sooner experience. You'll also learn about the tools, values, and resources that will support you from your first day through graduation.
