Mark B. Yeary, Ph.D., has been named the chief technology officer for the Oklahoma Aerospace and Defense Innovation Institute at the University of Oklahoma. Yeary is a George Lynn Cross Professor in the Gallogly College of Engineering’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a founding member of the Advanced Radar Research Laboratory at OU.

“Dr. Yeary is a nationally recognized leader in advanced radar technology research and its application to national security issues,” said Lt. Gen. (ret.) Gene Kirkland, executive director of the Oklahoma Aerospace and Defense Innovation Institute. “Dr. Yeary was instrumental in establishing OU’s Defense, Security and Intelligence initiative. His vision and in-depth understanding of OU’s technical strengths and capabilities in advanced technologies will benefit Oklahoma and our nation.”

OADII was established in 2021 to bring together OU’s capabilities and resources with a network of industry and government partners in support of the university’s aerospace, defense and global security research initiative. This focus is one of four strategic research verticals defined in OU’s “Lead On, University” Strategic Plan that applies convergent OU research to significant, real-world challenges.

As chief technology officer, Yeary will create and implement technology strategies that align with the state’s goals in growing the aerospace and defense economy in Oklahoma. He will guide the institute’s development of innovative solutions that span radar, additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence and machine learning and quantum technologies.
