A mother of four, commission officer, private investigator and a part-time writer, Jessica Wade wears many hats. This December, she will add another accomplishment to the list when she graduates from the College of Professional and Continuing Studies (PACS) with a degree in Criminal Justice Leadership.
Her educational journey has been shaped by the need to commit to her community, and a career of service. She initially attended college to attain a music education, spending three years preparing to become a teacher. However, everything changed after one unforgettable moment. However, everything changed after one unforgettable moment. When a vehicle caught fire at one of her students' homes, she rushed in without hesitation to help the family. At that moment, she knew what her life’s purpose was.
“This is where I wanted to be”, she said “This is what I wanted to do”.
Shifting her career path entirely, Jessica went on to earn her EMT and firefighter certifications, and dedicated 15 years to serving her community. Although she had stepped away from college, her desire to finish her degree never disappeared. When she decided it was time to return to school, she searched for a program that would allow her to transfer previous credit, but most importantly, one that would advance her current skillset and provide relevant application to her career.
“It felt like the PACS program found me instead,” she laughed.
She began her studies in Fall 2024, balancing coursework alongside a demanding career and family life. Looking back, she described the experience as transformative.
“It’s been amazing, I can't really put it into words”, she said, “It has been a godsend. It fit perfectly with my schedule and gave me everything I felt I was missing”.
And for someone juggling so many responsibilities, time management is essential. When asked how she manages it all, she laughs.
“Short answer? I don't. But being a leader means I must know how to prioritize".
Jessica focuses on deadlines first, and uses every spare moment to spend time with family, and pursuing her passion, writing. Her love for storytelling began in high school when she started writing her first novel, Murder Notes. Years later, she has published 2 books, with her debut, Murder Notes now available in Walmart stores. Today, she continues to meet dedicated readers, while working on her third novel. When not writing, she enjoys creating art, watching movies and tackling her ever-growing “to be read” list.
Reflecting on her journey within PACS, Jessica says one of the program’s greatest strengths is its practical approach to education.
"PACS really sets you up to succeed," she said. "The courses teach skills that you'll actually use in your career. It never feels like you're wasting your time or your money."
As graduation approaches, she is excited to celebrate earning a degree nearly 15 years after leaving college. More than that, she looks forward to seeing where her education will take her next, continuing to build on a career dedicated to protecting, serving and making a difference in her community.
