Center for the Business of Sports and Entertainment

Sports, media and live entertainment in a rapidly changing world

The Center for the Business of Sports and Entertainment will develop the next generation of leaders and help organizations thrive in the rapidly evolving global sports, media and entertainment industries. Technology, new business models and shifting consumer expectations are reshaping how these organizations operate and how fans and audiences experience them. Success in this environment takes leadership, culture and strategy that can adapt as quickly as the industry changes.

The Center does more than study where these industries are today. It brings together students, faculty, executives and industry partners to help shape their futures by developing talent, promoting research and solving real-world business challenges.

Why OU

Few universities are better positioned to prepare the leaders of these industries. The University of Oklahoma pairs one of the nation’s premier athletic programs with a nationally recognized business school and deep relationships across sports, media and entertainment. Together, those strengths create an extraordinary platform to develop talent, advance knowledge and bring industry leaders together. The result is something distinctly Oklahoma: a place where students, scholars, executives and entrepreneurs learn from one another and help shape what comes next.

Education

In the classroom, students will build a strong foundation in the fundamentals of the profession. Just as important, they’ll develop the adaptability they’ll need to lead in industries that are constantly reinventing themselves.

Price’s undergraduate sports business major is the fastest-growing major in the college. This Center will both house and expand offerings including:

  • Undergraduate major and minor in sports business
  • Undergraduate certificate in esports
  • Graduate certificate in sports business
  • Non-degree executive education programs geared toward future athletic directors

Industry Engegement

Students will gain hands-on experience through internships and direct engagement with sports and entertainment organizations, building the connections that launch careers. Price College faculty also produce meaningful scholarships in sports management, generating insights that help organizations make better decisions. The Center brings these efforts together under one roof and gives them room to grow.
