Laptop Compliance Guidelines

Personal laptop computers can be used to improve teaching and learning and provide anytime/anywhere communication between students and faculty. It is recommended that all students majoring or minoring in business have a laptop computer that meets the minimum system requirements established by the Price College. Many business courses now require and utilize software in and outside of the classroom, requiring students to have and use their own personal laptops for coursework.

  • Windows devices:
    • Processor: Intel Core i7 (13th Gen or newer) / AMD Ryzen 7 (7000 series or newer)
  • MacBook devices:
    • Processor: Apple M3 chip or higher

All devices need a minimum of:

  • 16GB RAM
  • 512GB Local Storage Drive (Solid State Drive - SSD)

Note: For laptops with the minimum 512GB hard drive specification, we strongly recommend having an external hard drive for backups and extra storage. Alternatively, we suggest that students save their files on OneDrive (cloud-based storage), which is provided to every student at OU free of charge. A 1TB storage drive is recommended for students who prefer to store large files and applications locally.

  • Windows devices:
    • Microsoft Windows 11
  • MacBook devices:
    • Operating System: macOS 15 or higher
  • Required for all students:
    • Microsoft Office 365 - This is free to OU students for up to 5 devices.
    • Google Chrome web browser*

*Other browsers may be specified by individual courses.

  • Windows-Only Software: There are certain classes throughout your Price College journey that require software that only functions properly in a Windows Operating environment (e.g., specific data analysis or simulation add-ins for Excel).
  • Non-Windows Devices: Student devices WITHOUT a Windows operating system (such as MacBooks) will require the student to purchase, install, and learn virtualization software (like Parallels Desktop) to run required Windows applications.
  • Unsupported Devices: Student devices that operate outside of these guidelines (including Linux and Chromebooks) will experience significant technical issues when trying to run required applications and are not recommended for the business curriculum.

As the Price College computer labs are supported by student fees assessed on business courses any work performed in the Price College Computer labs which is unrelated to the Price College may be deemed inappropriate and disallowed by the Computer Lab Management. Work may be reviewed by lab personnel at any time.

All students that are enrolled in a Price College course are eligible to logon to the Price College Lab system.

Students logon to PCB lab computers by entering their OUNetID(first 4 letters of their last name + last 4 numbers of their studentID). New students may go to http://accounts.ou.edu to activate a new account, change account preferences, and change their OUNetID password.

To do so, enter the following information:

  • YourOUNet ID. This is commonly referred to as your 4X4. It consists of the first four letters of your last name and the last four numbers of your OU ID Number.
  • YourOUNet password. This password is the one used to access your email, and other web based applications such as coursenet and touchnet.
