General Education is at the core of the OU academic experience, comprising at least 40 credit hours—about one-third of an undergraduate student’s curriculum. The General Education system ensures students develop both breadth and depth of knowledge and fulfills the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s General Education Requirements, as well as OU’s own General Education policy. Oversight of the General Education program is provided by the Provost’s Advisory Committee for General Education Oversight (PACGEO). Committee members are appointed by the Provost, and PACGEO establishes requirements and guidelines to help faculty and students understand General Education standards and processes.
