The Office of the Vice President for Research, Norman & Norman Campus Programs at OU-Tulsa

The University of Oklahoma-Norman is a comprehensive research university classified by the Carnegie Foundation in the highest tier of research universities in the nation (R1: Doctoral Universities—highest research activity). Our research enterprise features award-winning and nationally- and internationally-recognized faculty, multidisciplinary research centers, scholarly publications, and acclaimed performances at venues throughout the world. The university's south research campus is notable for fostering partnerships between academic programs and governmental and private industries.

Major research centers established on the Norman campus include the Advanced Radar Research Center, US Department of the Interior South-Central Climate Adaptation Science Center, the Center for Energy, Security and Society (jointly with Sandia National Laboratory), and on the Tulsa campus, the Early Childhood Education Institute. About the VP for Research

Interim Vice President for Research Randy Hewes is also the Dean of the Graduate College on the Norman campus and is responsible for the development and support of research and scholarly activities across all disciplines on the Norman campus and related programs on the OU-Tulsa campus. As VPR, Dr. Hewes reports directly to the President and provides leadership to strategically advance the research mission, particularly the cultivation of sponsored research programs, the integration of teaching and research, and the effective management of research administration and policies. More specifically, the Office of the VPR works collaboratively with all relevant organizations to assist faculty across all disciplines in achieving their scholarly goals and aspirations and:

  • Provide end-to-end proposal development, submission, and post-award services 
  • Help define research program trajectories and prepare competitive grant proposals
  • Help build collaborations internally and externally
  • Help locate and create research opportunities
  • Provide seed funding and other resources
  • Recruit and retain the best faculty and students
  • Highlight and reward achievements
  • Promote innovation coupled to economic development and technology transfer
  • Establish and enforce relevant research-related policies and help manage administrative burden on researchers
