Stefan Wilhelm Named 2021 Scialog Fellow

Stefan Wilhelm

Stefan Wilhelm, an assistant professor in the Stephenson School of Biomedical Engineering and an associate member of the Stephenson Cancer Center was named a 2021 Scialog: Advancing Bioimaging Fellow. Fifty-five early-career researchers, interested in pursuing collaborative, high-risk, highly impactful discovery research on untested ideas applicable to creating breakthroughs in imaging technology and applications are invited to participate in the program. The program format encourages participants to engage in dialogue and form new research teams, through interaction with a collection of scientists who approach the problem from different perspectives and disciplines.

“As an early-career faculty with research interest in bioimaging, I was nominated in Fall 2020 by OU to participate the new Scialog (science dialog) conference: Advancing BioImaging - launched in 2021 and co-sponsored by the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative and the Frederick Gardner Cottrell Foundation,” Wilhelm said. In February 2021, I was invited by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement program director, Dr. Andrew Feig, to apply to be a Scialog Fellow.”

The invitation email stated, “With this email, we invite you to apply to become a Scialog Fellow and have the opportunity to compete for collaborative grants. We are extending this invitation because we believe you are an outstanding early career investigator conducting basic research in an area we think needs to be represented as part of the dialogue on to take bioimaging to new heights.”

Wilhelm also recently received a National Science Foundation CAREER award for the research and outreach program Bionanotechnology Engagement for Native Americans in Oklahoma (BE4NANO), which provides STEM opportunities for underrepresented rural communities in Oklahoma.
