Air Force ROTC Scholarships

Scholarship Opportunities

Not sure how you are going to pay for college?  Air Force ROTC awards partial and full-tuition scholarships to outstanding applicants and exemplary cadets!

In-State Tuition Per Oklahoma Senate Bill 138, all ROTC participants in the State of Oklahoma are now considered 'in-state' students concerning tuition, housing, fees, and all other costs!

High school students can apply online for the High School Scholarship Program (HSSP) at www.afrotc.com between June 1st following their junior year and mid-January of their senior year of high school.  High school graduates who have no full-time college experience are also eligible to apply for the HSSP.

In-college students who join Air Force ROTC and maintain a good Cumulative GPA may be eligible to compete for in-college scholarships via the In-College Scholarship Program (ICSP).  These scholarships are available based on the needs of the Air Force and requirements change year to year.  Students earning technical and science degrees fill the Air Force’s greatest needs and therefore are among the most sought-after. The three primary factors considered when competing for ICSP scholarships are Cumulative GPA, Physical Fitness, and performance in AFROTC.

Both HSSP and ICSP scholarships will cover tuition and fees and provide a textbook allowance each semester and a monthly living expenses stipend during the academic year.

NOTE:  The Governor of Oklahoma signed legislation on April 15th, 2015 enacting a statewide policy that any student participating in, or who has received a partial or full scholarship from the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps, is eligible for in-state status (resident tuition).  This means that out-of-state high school students who are awarded a Type 7 scholarship can use it at OU without converting to a three-year Type 2!  This also means that ANY student participating in Air Force ROTC at the University of Oklahoma will be eligible for in-state status!

OU Tuition Waivers:  Cadets enrolled in Air Force ROTC can apply for partial OU tuition waivers each semester.  Application information will be sent to cadets at the beginning of each term.  Recipients are selected based on need and merit.

Air Force ROTC offers men and women the opportunity to earn a commission as an Air Force officer while completing their first bachelor's degree requirements. Interested students may join Air Force ROTC during any semester in their first year of college and during the fall semester of their second year without any obligation or commitment. Students who are beyond their second year of college may still be eligible to join, depending on how many credits they have remaining before they will earn their degree. OU students who complete the entire program will earn a minor in Aerospace Studies.

Brig Gen Charles McGee Leadership Award or CMLA. This award is granted to all individuals selected for the Professional Officer Course upon successful completion of field training. It recognizes cadets who have demonstrated the ability and intent to commission. The intent is to provide financial stability for the cadet. This allows their focus during the remainder of their time in AFROTC to be on development of their leadership acumen and successful completion of their academic course of study rather than financial constraints. The selection and eligibility criteria for PSP is different than that of the ICSP. For the ICSP, AFOQT passage is required (if taken), as is DODMERB qualification, and minimums for TGPA and CGPA are established each cycle (and published in the applicable cycle guide). Those not meeting the eligibility criteria would not have been on the Final Eligibility Roster and therefore not boarded for an ICSP scholarship. The activation requirements for the CMLA are the same as those for ICSP awards.

Air Force ROTC is the largest and oldest source of commissioned officers in the U.S. Air Force. Air Force ROTC's mission is to produce quality leaders for the U.S. Air Force. Air Force ROTC units are located on 140 college and university campuses with 1,000 additional institutions of higher learning participating in cross-town agreements which allow their students to attend Air Force ROTC classes at a nearby "host" college or university.

Law students may apply for the two-year Air Force ROTC program during their first year of law school or the one-year Air Force ROTC program during their second year of law school

Anyone interested in joining Air Force ROTC should contact the Recruiting Flight Commander at afrotc@ou.edu.
