I love that I work for a university that plays such a vital role not only in Norman but the entire state of Oklahoma as a top institution in education. OU gives spirit and engagement to all who are connected to it, not only students but employees and faculty, too!
I am looking forward to making connections across the staff community as a senator and giving positive support for the Norman campus. I would love to serve in other ways beyond my position, but also to assist the campus in other needs beyond the office.
I work lead for my division's social committee which drives up employee engagements for our staff and student workers year round.
I am a creative writer currently co-writing a novel with a colleague. I love to read and write fantasy, horror, and go ghost hunting with my husband at local haunted Oklahoma locations. My most favorite thing to do is to be at home with a mug of tea, a book, my arm chair, and my feisty calico cat, Dahlia. I also love spending time with my family, parents both OU alumni, and go on adventures with my husband, John.
My cat Dahlia (named for a rather infamous true crime mystery) is the duchess of our household and very well knows it. She is our pre-dawn alarm for her breakfast (as if we'd forget) and demands her "biscuit-bakery" work hours of cuddles before bed. She definitely has the attitude that calico cats are known for, but we love her dearly for the warmth and coziness she brings to our house. My husband is still trying to learn to live with the cat hair, but I tell him it's just evidence of love (he has yet to be convinced).
I see opportunity for community amongst the different divisions and departments. I believe that we all can help ourselves by helping each other first. There is so much to the campus that go unnoticed or unrecognized by the community that can benefit from, and I believe it's our responsibility to uphold our campus partners not only for them but for the students who could benefit from their services.
My favorite hobbies are reading and writing. I have been an avid reader since the eighth grade and am adamant that everyone is a reader; you just have to find the right book! My favorite books range from mysteries, horror novels, romance, and the occasional creative nonfiction or memoirs.
My favorite spot on campus is the Bizzell Library. Libraries are huge love of mine, but the Bizzell always stands out with its gorgeous brick building, its large areas for tabletop studying or cozy chairs for lounging, and especially for the Bookmark coffee shop on the lower level. I love spending time at the lowest level, seated in front of the rock garden windows and reading amongst the students.
