Spectrum of Resolution Options

Stairstep diagram from informal to formal resolution options; no conflict management, dialogue, conflict coaching, facilitated dialogue, mediation, restorative practices, shuttle diplomacy, informal adjudication, formal adjudication. The University of Oklahoma Student Conduct logo.
Based on Schrage and Thompson's spectrum model for inclusive conflict excellence (Schrage and Thompson 2008).

When a conflict or policy violation occurs, the Office of Student Conduct uses the Spectrum of Resolution Options grounded in the Inclusive Conflict Excellence model to respond. One of the foundational principles of the Spectrum of Resolution Options model is identifying and repairing the harm caused to the university community. Additionally, the spectrum model encourages active accountability, inclusive decision making, increased access, and rebuilding trust among its community members.

We work with students to determine the best resolution pathway for their situation. Policy violations are typically resolved through informal adjudication. Our aim is to resolve situations at the lowest level possible while providing an equitable, holistic, and comprehensive approach.
