Student Rights & Responsibilities Code (PDF)

Also Known As: Student Code, The Code, Code of Conduct

The Student Code policy acts as the "social contract" of the campus. It isn't just a list of rules to keep students out of trouble; it’s a framework designed to ensure the campus remains a safe, fair, and productive place for everyone to learn. Its purpose is to:

  1. Protect Your Rights
  2. Set Clear Expectations
  3. Maintain a Safe Learning Environment
  4. Encourage Personal Growth

Applies to individual students and student organizations.

While the Code itself lists the framework, the Procedures explain the "How-To." Think of the Procedures as the rulebook for the process—the step-by-step instructions the university must follow to ensure students are treated fairly if ever involved in a conduct case. The Procedures remove the "mystery" from the system and ensure that sanctions or outcomes aren't random or biased. The Procedures:

  1. Ensure Due Process
  2. Provide a Clear Roadmap
  3. Define Who Can Support You
  4. Standardize Outcomes or Consequences

Applies to individual students and student organizations.

The purpose of the Alcohol Policy is harm reduction. It acknowledges that alcohol use exists but aims to prevent the most dangerous outcomes, such as alcohol poisoning, drunk driving, and violence. It also ensures the university stays in compliace with federal laws like the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act. The university uses a Three Strikes procedure which is a tiered and predictable escalation system.

Applies to individual students and student organizations.
