Information Technology - VPN Instructions for OUHSC Faculty, Staff and Students

 

These instructions are for accessing the Tulsa VPN by OU-Tulsa faculty, staff and students who have OUHSC login credentials.

 

Prerequisites

 

Cable, DSL or other high bandwidth connection at home.

Your PC is running Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional.  If it is not, your PC should not be attached to our network.  If you do not know, right-click on My Computer, select Properties and it will tell you the version.

Your PC at home is running a virus protection program such as McAfee VirusScan 7 or higher and it is set to update daily and scan weekly.  If not, please install McAfee by visiting http://security.ouhsc.edu , clicking on the Security Downloads tab and download, install and configure the software as above.

Your PC at home is up to date with all current Windows Critical Updates.  If not, go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download and install all Critical Updates.

Go online at http://tulsa.ou.edu/forms/vpn.htm and sign up for access to the appropriate VPN Group.

 

VPN Installation Instructions

 

  1. Read the following agreement:
    This software and the use of the OU network are for authorized users only.
    No part of this Software may be "exported" outside the United States, and the user agrees not to make or assist in any such export.
    Individuals using this computer network without authority, or in excess of their authority, are subject to having all of their activities on this system monitored and recorded by Information Technology personnel.
    In the course of monitoring individuals improperly using this system, or in the course of system maintenance, the activities of authorized users may also be monitored.
    Anyone using this software and the OU network expressly consents to such monitoring and is advised that if such monitoring reveals possible criminal activity or policy violation, system personnel may provide the evidence of such monitoring to law enforcement or other officials.
  2. If you agree with the terms, proceed with install of VPN
  3. Enter logon information as instructed. ouhsc\username password
  4. Choose the correct download for your computer:
    VPN Downloads
  5. Click on the Connect button and, when requested, log in with your normal OUHSC login credentials. Your username MUST be entered in the format of “username@ouhsc.edu“ (without quotes)
  6. You should now have access to a new variety of services.

 

***Note- If you’re at a location where you’re sharing a connection to the internet with other PCs and you’re having problems connecting, you may need to turn on Transparent Tunneling in the connection options to allow you to pass through the local firewall/proxy to the OU-Tulsa VPN.
