Retaking the ALEKS Assessment

Students may take the ALEKS assessment to attempt to place into a different course. The learning module in the ALEKS-PPL system is a terrific tool to help students work on the skills that need to be refreshed and/or mastered. Students are encouraged to work hard in the modules and spend the time needed before re-assessing. Students must study a minimum of five hours in their learning module before being allowed to re-take the assessment. Incoming students can take the assessment a maximum of 3 times.

The best plan to improve placement is:

a) Take the assessment early – in the spring or summer for fall admission.
b) Work in the learning modules. Spend weeks or months working consistently in the learning modules to refresh and improve your skills. You can track your progress using the MyPie reporting pie chart.
c) Re-take the assessment, if desired, before your meeting with an OU academic advisor during your New Sooner Orientation Day.
