WLT is a firmly established literary magazine that has been in continuous publication for over 97 years. Interns at WLT can get experience in many aspects of the magazine publishing process including editing, writing, manuscript acquisitions, design, marketing, web development, social media, internet and library research, and more.
Students who have interned with WLT have gone on to careers with publications including Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, the New Yorker, Oklahoma Gazette, the Oklahoman, and others. For more, see a full list of our students’ success stories.
WLT student internships are voluntary (non-paid), but schedules are flexible and can be as few as two hours a week or up to ten or more. On occasion, WLT employs interns in work-study positions.
WLT has also become a vibrant humanities center for OU students. Working with hundreds of students a year, WLT sponsors a magazine publishing course, a student advisory board, Neustadt student fellowships, student research grants, and the annual Neustadt Lit Fest, in addition to one of the best internship programs on campus.

In recent years, students have been the driving force behind special issues on graphic literature, endangered languages, performance poetry, and food culture by serving as guest editors, writing book reviews and travel “Outposts,” and interviewing authors.
