National Merit Finalist Scholarship

National Merit Finalist Scholarship

While OU's National Merit Scholarship is a robust financial package, it will not cover all expenses. However, if you receive outside scholarships, those cash awards may reduce your out-of-pocket expenses. In addition to our National Merit scholarship, students may also "stack" cash awards or federal financial aid that they receive. Institutional scholarships, combined with other federal, state and/or institutional aid, should not exceed the published Cost of Attendance.

Review OU’s direct cost estimates to compare the National Merit scholarship to the anticipated expenses of attending OU. OU’s National Merit scholarship includes a tuition waiver for five years that may be used to study abroad.

Beyond the financial components of the scholarship, there are also non-financial benefits:

  • Early enrollment privileges (starts for enrollment in your second semester at OU and beyond).
  • One-on-one academic advising.
  • Participate in first-year experience events with other scholars. National Merit Scholars develop a strong cohort while at OU and can be in community together and have various opportunities to connect during their time at OU.
  • Use your OU Scholarship to study abroad in one of our numerous partner universities worldwide.
  • OU Honors College experience. Students who choose to join the Honors College will have access to more research experiences and support, smaller class sizes, top-tier faculty members, additional support and academic resources, preparation for prestigious scholarships and post-graduate programs etc.
  • Access to research experiences. As a comprehensive research university, OU is designated by the Carnegie Foundation as a Highest Research Activity institution, placing it in the highest tier of comprehensive research universities in the nation. Our scholars have access to research experiences starting their first year on campus.
