Cellular and Behavioral Neurobiology at the University of Oklahoma |
Welcome to the website of the Cellular and Behavioral Neurobiology Ph.D. program at the University of Oklahoma–Norman. In the CBN program, you will receive broad training in cellular and behavioral neurobiology. You will learn to think like a scientist, by frequently interacting one-on-one with professors, not just with postdoctoral fellows and research assistants. You will develop the critical thinking skills and diverse research skills required of successful neurobiologists. You can address questions with ethological, psychological, or engineering impact. You can do research on animals that are model species for investigating particular kinds of research questions, including fruit flies, scorpions, crabs, fish, turtles, mice, rats, and humans. You can use behavioral, physiological, pharmacological, morphological, computational, and molecular genetic approaches. Your training will be as interdisciplinary as you want. Our faculty members are drawn from three departments or schools: Zoology, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, and Chemistry and Biochemistry. You will be in a rich learning environment, doing rotations in two or three CBN research labs before choosing your Ph.D. mentor. Your coursework will include the Introduction to Neurobiology course and the Current Topics in Neurobiology seminar course, in which you will present research twice. You will also fulfill the requirements of one of the three member departments. You will also have available to you a wide range of courses related to cellular and behavioral neurobiology. Please see our list of faculty and their research interests for more details on the type of research you could pursue in the CBN program. To apply to the CBN program, you first apply through one of the three member departments/schools. Choose among Zoology, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, or Chemistry and Biochemistry based on the departmental affiliation of the faculty member(s) whose research interests most closely match your own. In your application, be sure to mention your interest in joining the CBN program so that our selections committee also receives notification of your application. We are happy to answer your questions and give you more information. Please contact us. |
