Emergencies While Traveling

A non-emergency situation does not immediately impact the health and safety of the traveler, yet may still require assistance. Non-emergencies may include: lost items (e.g. passport, wallet, luggage, etc.), visa assistance, canceled or delayed flight, minor illness or injury.

When in doubt, treat health, safety and well-being situations as an emergency.
An emergency situation is one that has impacted, or is likely to impact, the health and safety of the traveler. Examples may include: major crime, serious accident, major physical or mental health situation (including family emergency, such as death or hospitalization), being a victim of sexual assault / misconduct, detention or arrest, lost person, kidnapping, civil unrest, or natural disaster.
1. Tend to Your Immediate Safety and/or Medical Needs
A: Get somewhere you feel safe, either by going to a safe location or by sheltering in place.
B: Contact local police in the case of feeling physically threatened or you are a victim of crime by calling the 911 local equivalent.
C: For emergency medical care, go to the nearest hospital / doctor or call the 911 local equivalent.
When able, contact the UnitedHealthcare Global (UHCG) 24/7 Emergency Reponse Center who can assist and monitor your care: +001 (410) 453-6330.
2. Make Appropriate Local Contacts
A: Contact program leaders or on-site partners who can provide emergency support or suggestions.
B: Reach out to local people you trust to see how they can be of assistance.
C: Contact the U.S. Embassy or embassy for your country of citizenship if you need legal assistance or passport replacement.
3. Contact the University of Oklahoma

Let the dispatcher know that you are currently abroad. They will transfer you to a CIS Emergency Responder who can provide further instructions and assistance.
