Dr. Michele Galizia
The Gallogly College of Engineering congratulates Dr. Michele Galizia, associate professor in the School of Sustainable, Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering (SCBME), on receiving the Permeance Prize for Mid-Career Excellence from the North American Membrane Society (NAMS).
Presented annually, the Permeance Prize recognizes an individual who has made outstanding contributions to membrane science and demonstrated service to the NAMS community.
Galizia received the award at the International Congress on Membranes and Membrane Processes (ICOM) conference in San Antonio in July, where he also delivered an invited keynote address.
The award adds to a distinguished record of recognition for Galizia’s research, teaching and contributions to the chemical engineering profession. His previous honors include the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the American Chemical Society’s Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering (PMSE) Early Career Investigator Award, and selection for the 2021 Class of Influential Researchers by Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, an ACS publication. At OU, he has also received the Chemical Engineering Outstanding Professor Award multiple times and was named an OU Presidential Professor in 2023.
Galizia’s impact extends to the next generation of researchers. His students have earned National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships and received research recognition from NAMS and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
Reflecting on the Permeance Prize, Galizia emphasized the mentors, colleagues, students and professional community that have shaped his career.
“I want to thank my colleagues who nominated me for the NAMS Permeance Prize, and the whole NAMS/ICOM community for the support I have received since I was in the early stages of my career,” Galizia said.
