Study abroad in the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education is back! After a two-year hiatus, students and faculty are back to traveling abroad for educational and cultural experiences.

The first group of students and faculty headed out on May 16 for Arezzo, Italy. Dean Stacy Reeder and Associate Dean Aiyana Henry are leading a group of 14 students through Arezzo, Florence, Pisa and Rome, where they will look at cultural differences in education while also experiencing life in the cities they visit. Reeder will teach a class on PK-3 mathematics concepts, while Henry’s class will focus on working with parents and communities. The students will be in the country through June 15.

Assistant Professors Rebeca Borden and Erin Casey are leading a group of students on a study abroad visit May 29 through June 27 to Puebla, Mexico. Casey will teach a class on diverse learners, while Borden’s class focuses on second language literacy for Spanish-speaking English language learners.

The third study abroad visit, led by Professor Sally Beach and Associate Professor Kristy Brugar, is set for June 2-28 in Uganda. In addition to an Africa in Context class, students will take part in service-learning classes with an interdisciplinary project facilitating the grassroots women’s peace conference. Participants will teach in the school for women as well as in the other educational settings on campus; work with teachers on implementing the new curricula in mathematics, oral English and literacy in Acoli and English; and do model lessons.
