Michael Louis Angelotti passed away on Dec. 1, 2022. For 39 years, he was a professor of English education at Texas Tech University and the University of Oklahoma. During his tenure at OU, he served as an associate dean, interim dean, department chair for the Department of Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum and on many doctoral committees. He retired in 2013 as professor emeritus. Angelotti was a passionate, dedicated educator beloved by his students as teacher and mentor.

As the third director of the Oklahoma Writing Project, a professional learning community that celebrates good teachers and good teaching, he led several Summer Institutes and every year hosted “The Fountain of the Muse" at the National Writing Project Convention, inviting teachers from across the country to spend the evening writing and sharing poetry. When Angelotti retired after a decade as OWP director in 2000, OWP established the Mike Angelotti Poetry Award.
