Larry Powell is an instructor of professional practice at the University of Oklahoma’s Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication. He teaches upper level undergraduate and graduate advertising courses in the Strategic Communications area. He also serves as Adviser to OU Ad Club.
Larry has diverse experience gained from more than 30 years of working for and with organizations in both public and private sectors as well as academia. He is an accomplished advertising professional, entrepreneur and business owner, and university professor.
During his extensive career in marketing and advertising, numerous local, regional, and national companies benefited from Larry’s expertise. He has been responsible for developing successful campaigns for such clients as the American Heart Association, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Greyhound Corp., TXU Electric & Gas, Zale/Bailey Banks & Biddle Corporation, and AT&T.
Larry is former Assistant Professor of Strategic Communication at the Missouri School of Journalism. He was also founder and Director of Mojo Ad, the school’s student-staffed professional-services advertising agency, which specializes in the Youth and Young Adult (YAYA) market. He has also been an adjunct professor at West Virginia University and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and consultant for ROXO – the student ad agency at Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas.
In addition to classroom teaching, Larry has conducted strategic communication workshops and training seminars at conferences and universities locally, nationally, and internationally.
