Students in the Graduate 4 Architecture Design Studio, led by professors Amy Leveno and Awilda Rodriguez, spent two days exploring Dallas as part of their studio work centered on Dallas City Hall and the surrounding downtown area.
The trip began with a guided tour of Dallas City Hall hosted by Councilman Paul Ridley and led by Marcus Watson, Chief Planner and Historic Preservation Officer for the City of Dallas, followed by research at the Dallas Archives. Students also visited the historic Statler Dallas and Interurban Building, an adaptive reuse housing project, and toured the offices of Perkins&Will, where Design Director Ron Stelmarski shared insights on the firm’s design of the new Dallas Convention Center.
The group continued their circuit through Klyde Warren Park and the Dallas Arts District, finishing at the Nasher Sculpture Center, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop. The field trip gave students a firsthand look at downtown Dallas’s civic, historical, and cultural fabric, providing valuable context to inform their studio design projects.
