Dr. Heather Bedle, associate professor in the School of Geosciences and Director of the Sustainable Energy Systems Program at OU’s Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy, was recently selected as the 2026 Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Outstanding Educator of the Year, an international award given to only 1-2 recipients annually. The award was presented at the Image Conference.

The Outstanding Educator Award honors individuals for excellence in geophysics education and is awarded to a person who merits such recognition, based on his or her educational qualities and contributions that may include:

  • Providing extraordinary inspiration to the next generation of geophysics professionals.

Dr. Bedle said of the award, “Being recognized as an SEG Outstanding Educator means the world to me, and I expect it will remain the most meaningful honor of my career. For any educator, the greatest reward is knowing we have helped shape our students’ minds and inspired them along the way.”

Congratulations Dr. Bedle!
