Join the OU Retirees Association or Renew Your Membership

What is the OU Retirees Association and why should I join?

In 1991, the OURA was established by the OU Regents “for the benefit of the University and for the retired faculty and staff comprising its membership. Activities shall include, but not be limited to, assistance in fulfilling University goals and objectives, assistance in fund raising and student recruiting activities, providing informational and social opportunities for retirees, participating in appropriate University organizations, and such other services as may be requested by the University or the Association membership. It shall not function as a lobbying organization within or without the University for the sole benefit of its members.”

So if I become a member, what is required of me? How much does it cost?

Annual dues are $10, very affordable.
The OURA typically has four events a year and strives to provide interesting and entertaining programs for its members. You may attend one, all, or none of the events. This is a good way to meet new friends, reconnect with former colleagues, and have a little fun. A newsletter is published quarterly, prior to each meeting. Download a sample OURA newsletter (PDF).

To join the OURA or to renew your membership, click the following link, fill out the OURA membership/renewal form, and mail the completed form to the OURA Treasurer along with your dues payment. Download a Membership/Renewal form (PDF).

In addition to payment by personal check, membership/renewal payments may now be made online by credit/debit card at the following link: https://giving.oufoundation.org/OnlineGivingWeb/Giving/OnlineGiving/OURetiree

Benefits Update:  [11 October 2023]

At the September 2023 general meeting of the OURA, OU Director of Benefits & Retirement Lee Camargo-Quinn updated Association members on upcoming changes in retiree benefits. That update was followed in early October by a letter to all OU retirees outlining the changes in detail. Here is the text of that letter.

The University of Oklahoma has important news about your health care and prescription drug coverage.

As you may be aware, the University accepted bids from Medicare carriers to assess new 2024 market opportunities. Carriers were asked to match the current plan design within our three Medicare plan options: Group Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan (MAPD), Senior Supplement with Prescription Drug Plan (Part D), and a stand-alone Prescription Drug Plan (Part D). A group of peers from the Retirees Association, the Employment Benefits Committee, and various senates across campus reviewed the bid responses, listened to presentations from potential carriers, and made a recommendation to the University's President. The President and the Board of Regents have approved the group's recommendations.

We are pleased to announce that Humana will now administer the Group Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan and stand-alone Prescription Drug Plan (Part D) for your health care and prescription drug coverage, which will be offered to Medicare-eligible retirees and their currently enrolled Medicare-eligible dependents effective January 1, 2024. The Group MAPD plan is a custom plan designed exclusively for the University of Oklahoma retirees. The Group MAPD plan and the stand-alone Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) are custom plans designed exclusively for the University of Oklahoma retirees. These plans are different from and should not be confused with individual Humana Medicare Advantage and PDP plans that might be available in your area.

The Medicare Senior Supplement Plan with Prescription Drug Plan (Part D) will be administered by Cigna and will be offered to Medicare-eligible retirees and their currently enrolled Medicare-eligible dependents effective January 1, 2024.

Unless you would like to change to a different Medicare plan option, no action is needed on your part. The current coverage with United Health Care will end on December 31, 2023, and you will be automatically enrolled into the same plan for coverage effective January 1, 2024 under either Humana or Cigna.

You will receive an Open Enrollment packet in the mail from Payflex, the University's third-party administrator for retiree health, in late October. Please follow the directions on the packet carefully. You will have until December 7, 2023 to make any changes to your current plan options. If you do not wish to change plans, no action is needed on your part.
