Internal Medicine Residency Program Requirements by Year

Interns spend 5-6 months on inpatient service working with an attending, a senior resident and another intern. We also have a night float service so there is no regular call on our inpatient service but each intern can expect to work one to two months of night float during the year.  One to two months are spent in the ICU during which each intern works with a senior resident and attending. We have academic afternoon each Wednesday which includes team based learning and lectures from local physicians.  Each week we have a Board Review session in which one of our faculty members leads a discussion and review using MKSAP.  Interns will also complete their first core rotation in Nephrology and also one core rotation in Neurology, Oncology or Cardiology.

During second year you will begin supervising interns on inpatient wards and the ICU services.  Senior residents will have one month of night float on inpatient service. You will also complete a few of your core rotations in Cardiology, Nephrology, Emergency Medicine, Oncololgy, or Neurology.  You will also have the ability to complete some of your elective rotations during second year.

Residents attend Board Review and Academic Afternoon every Wednesday.

During third year you will continue to supervising interns on inpatient wards and the ICU services.  You will also complete your remaing core rotations in Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Neurology, Oncololgy or Pulmonology.  You will also have the ability to complete elective rotations in areas of your interest.
