PGY-4 Residents

Shelbi Bond, DO

Medical school: Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Undergraduate: University of Central Oklahoma

Family life: Married to my amazing husband, Daniel. We have two beautiful children, Callum (who will be 3 yo in Sept) and Gemma (celebrating her first birthday in May).

Hobbies: With my busy lifestyle, I love spending my free time hanging out with my little family. We love going to local parks and trying new restaurants. I also enjoy watching competition reality shows (survivor is my jam when cocomelon isn’t playing for the kiddos)

Professional interests: My current interest is to be a general obstetrician/gynecologist and to hopefully bring a unique perspective with my pediatrics training to the field. I have really enjoyed teaching students throughout my training so I may decide to venture into academia in the future. If there’s anything I’ve learnt over the years, it’s to keep an open mind!

Why I chose this program: I had the opportunity to experience the program secondhand through my husband over the past 3 years. I found the small class sizes allow for individualized attention and guidance from faculty members, excellent educational opportunities, and a family atmosphere throughout the program.

Ashlyn Kamrath, MD

Medical School: University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences

Undergraduate: North Dakota State University

Family Life: Married to my husband, Drew, our COVID puppy named Laynie and our newest addition, our lovely son Reuben

Hobbies: I love spending quality time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors, and trying to master some traditional family recipes, specifically Lefse.

Professional Interests: General OB/GYN with a passion for full scope women’s health care and access to care. I have a background in Family Medicine and hope to incorporate my past experiences into my current practice.

Hailey Nale, DO

Medical School: AT Still University – Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine

Family Life: Dog mom to a 17-year-old pup!

Hobbies: Cooking all types of food, reading sci-fi and fantasy books, gardening, and hanging out with friends.

Why I Chose This Program: The program has a great mix of community and academic medicine in a wonderful city to live. Also, it’s a small, close-knit, and very welcoming group of individuals!

Rebecca Nuss, MD

Medical School: Louisiana State University School of Medicine New Orleans

Undergraduate: Southeastern Louisiana University

Family Life: I have a really wonderful family back home, but in Oklahoma, I'm starting small with just myself and my dog/best friend, Tidepod.

Hobbies: I've always loved singing and playing music; I was even in a medical school band! To stay fit, I do aerial fitness/dance because what better way to exercise than by hanging from the ceiling? I also enjoy craft projects and spending time with family, friends, and animals.

Professional Interests: After residency, I would like to go into a Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) fellowship. My specific interests include working with underserved populations, chronic pelvic pain management, and trauma-informed GYN care.

Why I Chose This Program: When I interviewed with this program, I felt extremely welcome and at ease with both the residents and faculty. Being far from home, it was important to me to feel like I could build a work family here, so the small program atmosphere was appealing. In addition, I love the idea of being prepared for fellowship in an academic environment while still having some components of a community program.

PGY-3 Residents

Kelsey Snider, DO

Medical School: Oklahoma State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine

Undergraduate: Oklahoma State University

Graduate: University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music

Family Life: Married to my high school sweetheart Andrew, and mom to two wonderful kids, Camdyn and Graham. Don't forget our three dogs, Micah, Ryli, and Kinsey :)

Hobbies: I love house renovations and house projects, spending time with my family, and trying local restaurants. Food is my love language.

Professional Interests: Academic Medicine and Community Health. I am interested in working with underserved populations and teaching/mentoring in my future career. For now, I plan to be a generalist but am open to exploring fellowship opportunities.

Why I chose this program: This program checked all of the boxes for me. It is the perfect mix of academic and community medicine, with supportive and mentoring faculty and residents, with good volume and learning opportunities. Tulsa is close to family, and we are so lucky to be able to stay in the city we love.

Marisa Michealson, MD

Medical School: University of New Mexico School of Medicine

Undergraduate: University of New Mexico

Family Life: Recently got engaged to my fiancé Eric (an internal medicine intern at UT San Antonio). I'm the youngest of 4 kids and have 7 nieces and nephews! My family is everything to me!

Hobbies: Reading, anything outdoors (especially hiking, camping, skiing)

Professional Interests: I enjoy everything about the field of OB/GYN, so I could very well see myself practicing as a generalist one day! However, I particularly love MFM (specifically high-risk obstetrics in an under resourced/rural setting), and Gyn Onc with robotic surgery.

Why I choose this program: I wanted an academic program, but I love that OU Tulsa mixes academic with community medicine. I am very interested in continuing to work with medically underserved populations and learning how to provide equitable care with resource constraints and I believe Tulsa will be the perfect place to enhance that training.

Ashton Glover Gatewood, MPH, DO

Why I Chose This Program: This program is so special in that it is an academic program with a community focus, which allows for great opportunities in training. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming from the start. I felt that this program offered the best of both worlds with well rounded training and a supportive family-like atmosphere.

Medical School: Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine - Cherokee Nation

Graduate: University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (Master of Public Health) - Boomer Sooner!

Undergraduate: Oklahoma City University (Cell & Molecular Biology, Spanish, Nursing)

Family Life: Married to college sweetheart for 10 years! We have two young daughters, our Josie dog, and a cat.

Hobbies: Family adventures to the park, playground, and around town. Traveling with friends and family.

Professional Interests: Tribal health, Policy and advocacy, Medical education, and everything OBGYN!

Why I choose this program: From the first day of my Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) Sub-internship, everyone was willing to help and teach. I appreciated how considerate everyone was to each other and their patients. It was obvious that I would not only gain excellent training as a physician, but also support to develop into a kind and compassionate person.

Jacob Van Buren, MD

Family Life: I have a huge Newfoundland-mix dog named

Bagel. His best friend is every person he meets, and his worst enemy is hardwood floors.

Hobbies: Basketball, Volleyball, and this one strategy card game that I play with my friends

Professional Interests: prenatal care, gynecological surgery

Why I choose this program: First and foremost, I love Tulsa! I lived here for 7 years and really feel like it’s my home. It’s a great place to build community. I also appreciate the intimate size of our program. A smaller class size means more intentional teaching and stronger bonds among residents and faculty. Culture was my main priority in choosing a program, and there’s definitely a good one here.

PGY-2 Residents

Quanisha Roberson, DO

Medical School: Oklahoma State University College of Medicine

Undergraduate: Langston University

Family Life: I have a beautiful daughter, named Baileigh who is in the 4th grade, and we have a precious toy poodle named Riley Biscuit Boi. We are close to my mom, brothers and sister with many nieces and nephews whom I adore.

Hobbies: Love hanging out with family and friends, eating, playing board and card games, walking, biking, and skating the neighborhood, cooking, arts, and crafts, traveling, going to the gym. Good funny comedy, serving in the community and living the "soccer mom," life and all things related to motherhood and Baileigh.

Professional Interests: currently a OBGYN Generalist, although I think every aspect of women's health interest me. I would not be opposed to a fellowship but only time will tell.

Merlyn Liando, MD

Medical School: University of Oklahoma College of Medicine - Oklahoma City

Undergraduate: University of Oklahoma - Norman

Family Life: I was born and raised in Oklahoma City and have lived here my whole life. Right now, I'm just living life on the edge with my two cats, Dove and Daphne, and love visiting my family dog, Kiwi.

Hobbies: Reading romantasy and mystery/thriller books, running, baking, concerts, and anything outdoors

Professional Interests: Right now the goal is to become a great generalist but who knows what the future holds!

I chose this program because: I was drawn to the program because of the comradery I felt between the residents and faculty. They are a very welcoming group of people and give me the feeling of a tight-knit family!

Angela Badsch, DO

Medical School: Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences

Undergraduate: Warner Pacific College

Family Life: I live with my husband, Chad and two children Keena and Ealand.

Hobbies: I have many hobbies, but a few are spending time with family, hiking camping, exercising, watching movies/TV shows, playing board games, singing karaoke, painting, crafts, puzzles, and reading.

Professional Interests: I plan on being a generalist OBGYN who works with rural and/or underserved communities similar to the one I grew up in. Advocacy and community education is also very important to me and plan to incorporate that into my future career.

I chose this program because: This program was welcoming and seemed to be a supportive environment that was extremely family friendly all while providing excellent surgical and obstetrical training.

Mercedes Lincoln, DO

Family Life: I have a wonderful husband and three spoiled cats!

Hobbies: Reading epic fantasy, knitting, finding deals on Facebook Marketplace, rearranging and decorating our apartment

Professional Interests: General OB/Gyn; I’m also specifically interested in women’s health during the perimenopause/menopause transition

I chose this program because: I felt so welcome during my interview and loved the opportunity to train in such a tight-knit program. This program also has the perfect blend of academic medicine with a strong community aspect that I was looking for. Staying in Tulsa close to family is a huge bonus!
