Academic Accommodations

The ADRC disability professionals work with students and faculty to provide equitable and effective access for students with documented disabilities to support their full participation in The University of Oklahoma classes and activities.

New to the ADRC?

If you are an OU student who has never registered with the ADRC, please submit an application for accommodation and provide documentation of your disability. Once we've received this information, an ADRC advisor will reach out with next steps.

All students requesting accommodations must go through the interactive process with an ADRC staff member. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Already Registered with Us?

Students already in our system can login to AIM to request their class and testing accommodations online now. See our guide to requesting accommodations for more information.

Accommodations will need to be requested through AIM every semester.

If you'd like to upload additional documentation, that can also be done through AIM. From your dashboard, navigate to Accommodations > Submit Additional Documentation for Review.

How Academic Accommodations Work at OU

Academic accommodations are provided to students with documented disabilities. After reviewing your documentation and meeting with you to discuss the most reasonable and appropriate accommodations, the ADRC will issue an approval.
Accommodations are intended to provide you with access to your courses and materials but must not fundamentally alter the essential course requirements. These are the core knowledge, skills, and abilities that all participants in a college course must demonstrate, with or without accommodations, to meet the program's objectives. For instance, students in an ENGL 1113 course are expected to write essays and papers, so the ADRC would not approve an accommodation of a multiple-choice test instead of an essay.
Examples of common accommodations include, but are not limited to:
- Extended testing time (1.5x)
- Testing in a distraction reduced environment
- Recording lectures
Once students are registered with the ADRC they will need to request their accommodations EACH SEMESTER.
When your accommodations are approved, an official approval notice will be sent to your instructors and appear in your AIM mailbox.

The ADRC will not discuss your accommodations with anyone but you unless you provide us with a Confidential Release of Information.

Testing Accommodations
- If you are approved for testing accommodations, the OU Testing Center is available as an option, but not a mandate, for accommodated testing. To utilize the Testing Center, visit the OU Testing Center website for more information regarding registration and procedures.
