New research from the University of Oklahoma reveals that “compound events” — periods when heat wave conditions coincide with high air pollution levels — are becoming more frequent and intense in urban areas across the United States.
Liam Thompson, a junior in the University of Oklahoma College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences, is the lead author of a new study published in Urban Climate. The study was an assessment of a hydroclimate model’s ability to simulate temperature, dew point and wind speed evaluated against ground-level observations.
Two University of Oklahoma students, Brooke Rogachuk and Liam Thompson, have been named 2025 Goldwater Scholars for excellence in natural science, engineering and mathematics.
Robert Palmer, Ph.D., has been named the next dean of the University of Oklahoma College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences and director of the National Weather Center, effective July 1, pending OU Board of Regents’ approval.
