Dr. Ellen Greene

Ellen Greene is a Joseph Paxton Presidential Professor of Classics at the University of Oklahoma. Her research specializes in Greek and Roman lyric poetry, with an emphasis on issues in gender and sexuality. Her published books include: Reading Sappho: Contemporary Approaches (1997), Re-Reading Sappho: Reception and Transmission (1997), The Erotics of Domination: Male Desire and the Mistresses in Latin Poetry (1999), Women Poets in Ancient Greece and Rome (2005), Gendered Dynamics in Latin Love Poetry (2005), and  The New Sappho on Old Age (2009). Prof. Greene has also published numerous articles on Greek and Latin love lyric. With Tara Welsh, she is co-editing Oxford Readings in Propertius. She is also currently working on a book-length study of Sappho for Blackwell.
