As a summer columnist for the American Historical Association's series, Perspectives Daily, PhD candidate Cecilia Slane has written a two column series: "Get Your Hands Dirty: Historical Practice in a Community Garden" and "Weeding and Writing History: Gardening Through Graduate School." In these columns, she discusses examples of integrating historical thinking and practice with her work in a local community garden, such as creating zines that include historical essays and preparing a public presentation about 20th century community gardens and Oklahoma agriculture. She also explores how gardening has shaped her experience of doing historical research.
