Nonprofit Management Concentration
A Focused Track for Your M.P.A. Degree Program
For our Norman and Tulsa campus locations, the nonprofit concentration is designed to equip graduate students for leadership roles in nonprofits and policy advocate groups. With courses such as Nonprofits & Public Sector Relations, Strategic Planning & Performance Measurement, and Public Financial Management this concentration will examine the everyday issues and ideal goals in the nonprofit sector.
In order to qualify for the Nonprofit Management Concentration, students must select 9 credit hours from the course list below (each is worth 3 hours):
- PSC 5033 - Foundations of Nonprofit Management
- PSC 5063 - Nonprofits & Public Sector Relations
- PSC 5133 - Strategic Planning & Performance Measurement
- PSC 5253 - Human Resource Administration
- PSC 5363 - Public Financial Management
- PSC 6143 - Seminar in Public Organizations Behavior
- PSC 6173 - Seminar: Public Administration Individualized Intensive Study
Students must submit a proposal describing the specific topic of study, as well as, the nine credit hours of applicable concentration coursework, which the student will use to conduct an in-depth exploration of his or her topic. Students are advised to meet with a MPA faculty member to discuss their research interest and formulate a study plan as soon as the decision to pursue a concentration is made. The MPA faculty advisor and the Director of Graduate Programs in Public Administration must approve the proposal in advance of enrolling in any concentration coursework.
