Peer Support to Help You Succeed in Computer Science Throughout Your Undergraduate Journey

The Kerber Scholars are dedicated undergraduate students in the School of Computer Science who are here to support you. Whether you're struggling with core concepts, need help debugging your code, or just want to talk through an assignment, Kerber Scholars are available to offer free, one-on-one or group tutoring tailored to your needs.

Our mission is to make Computer Science more approachable, accessible, and engaging for every student. We’re not just tutors - we’re your peers who have been through the same courses, faced the same challenges, and want to help you succeed.

Here's What You Need to Know

The Kerber Scholar Program provides undergraduate students within the University of Oklahoma’s School of Computer Science the opportunity to gain tutoring experience, support student academic success, and collaborate with faculty and peers. Kerber Scholars serve as paid tutors who provide academic assistance in Computer Science coursework and help foster a positive, accessible, and supportive learning environment.

  • Develop skills in one-on-one and group academic tutoring

  • Strengthen your communication, leadership, and teaching abilities

  • Build professional connections with faculty and fellow students 

  • Enhance your resume with relevant tutoring and mentoring experience

  • Make a meaningful impact by helping your peers succeed academically

Kerber Scholars work 20 hours per week in a paid position at 0.5 FTE. Responsibilities include conducting tutoring sessions, holding consistent office hours, attending training and meetings, and collaborating with faculty and staff to support student academic needs. This position is semester-based with potential for renewal.

  • Provide tutoring support in core Computer Science courses (e.g., CS 1323, CS 2334, CS 2414, CS 2813, CS 2614)
  • Maintain weekly office hours and scheduled tutoring sessions (in-person and/or virtual)

  • Assist students with understanding course concepts, programming assignments, and study strategies 

  • Collaborate with faculty to identify students in need of academic support

  • Participate in regular meetings and training sessions

  • Support departmental academic initiatives and workshops as needed

  • Maintain accurate logs of tutoring sessions and student engagement 

  • An undergraduate (B.S.) declared major in Computer Science (second semester sophomore, junior, or senior)
  • 3.75 OU/Overall GPA
  • CS 2413/Data Structures
  • CS 2813/Discrete Structures or MATH 2513/Discrete Mathematics
  • CS 2614/Computer Organization

These required courses must be passed with a "B" grade or higher

  • Prior tutoring, mentoring, or peer support experience
  • Familiarity with introductory and intermediate Computer Science curriculum
  • Involvement in academic or student organizations within the School of Computer Science
  • Demonstrated reliability, organization, and initiative
