Professor Yang Hong Ranks #1 Globally in Hydrometeorology and Flood Research

NORMAN, OK — Professor Yang Hong, Gallogly Chair Professor at the University of Oklahoma and Director of the Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing (HyDROS) Laboratory, is currently ranked as the #1 most-cited scientist worldwide in Flood and Hydrometeorology, and among the top 10 scholars globally in Hydrology & Water Resources and Civil Engineering, based on 2025 Google Scholar metrics. A repeated Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher, his work integrates remote sensing, hydrologic modeling, and artificial intelligence to advance precipitation science, flood prediction, hazard early warning, and climate-justice–oriented risk analysis. Over his career, he has mentored 100 students and postdoctoral researchers, including 35 faculty members worldwide, two dozen leaders in government agencies, and many others in industry and international organizations, including UNESCO and World bank.
