Learning Experience Design and Technology

Program Details

The LXDT Ph.D. Program is structured to help you achieve the following objectives:

1. Build a strong theoretical and practical foundations in learning experience design, learning sciences, learning / instructional design and technology, critical digital pedagogies, adult learning theories.
2. Develop strong competencies in needs analysis, design, development, and evaluation of human-centered learning environments through creation and use of learning technologies, according to evidence-based research. Contexts include formal and informal learning environments in online, blended, or in-person formats.
3. Develop a strong command of various authoring and other tools for designing and developing effective digital learning and instructional / learning environments and applications, according to deep understanding of learning and critical theories and based on evidence-based research and critical inquiry.
4. Build strong research competences using a variety of research methodologies, methods, and tools to address research problems related to learning and instruction, with particular attention to learner centered and critical approaches.
5. Conduct design-based research to develop insights about learner’s experience, assess learning outcomes, and evaluate the effectiveness of a learning environment that has been designed and developed for the purpose of improving design products and learning experience.
6. Develop a strong sense of ethical and professional responsibility for the field and society.
7. Develop cultural competence and equity literacy and apply those competences in instructional design and development and educational technology.
8. Develop researcher identity and critical reflection abilities necessary to generate original and creative contributions for the betterment of educational / learning systems and society.
