Rozmeri Basic, Ph.D.


Rozmeri Basic is a Professor of Art History, School of Visual Arts, at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma. Dr. Basic has received a B.A. in Art History from the University of Arts, Belgrade, a M.F.A. in Art History, and a Ph.D. in Art History and Comparative Arts from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. She teaches the following undergraduate and graduate topic-seminar classes: Understanding Art, Byzantine Art and Architecture, Byzantine Icons, Aegean Art, Cycladic Art and Architecture, Minoan Art and Architecture, Mycenaean Art and Architecture, Etruscan Art and Architecture, and Early Medieval Art and Architecture. Her research is related to examination and interpretation of cross-cultural issues in Carolingian, Byzantine, and post-Byzantine traditions. Her interdisciplinary research is related to preservation and protection of cultural heritage across the globe. Dr. Basic presented and published her papers worldwide and she holds membership in numerous professional organizations. In 2003 and 2004 she received two prestigious awards: a Fulbright award for senior scholars for research in Egypt (Sinai and Crete: Jeremias Palladas and the Post-Byzantine School of Painting) and a grant for publishing support from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, Chicago (St. Donat and Alcuin’s Acrostics: Case Studies in Carolingian Modulation, Fucecchio, Florence: Kim Williams Books, 2003). In 2007, Professor Basic was one of the recipients of the newly established University of Oklahoma Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award, and in 2008 she was selected as favorite faculty member by her colleagues in School of Art and Art History. In 2010/11, she received her second Fulbright research award for senior scholars working on her project Remedies for Contemporary Iconoclasm: The Case Study of Serbia.

Her recent conference presentations were at the University of Bucharest, Bucharest, University of Malta, Valletta, University at Oulu (Finland), Sapienza University, Rome, University of the Aegean, Rhodes, University of Ghent, Ghent, Karadeniz Technical University, Trabzon, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul, Euro-Balkan University, Skopje, West University University of Timisoara, Timisoara, and Pinelo Academic Research Center in Chana, Crete.
