Eric Anderson


Eric Anderson received his BFA from Colorado State University in 1976 and his MFA from Indiana University in 1979. After finishing his education, Eric worked as a senior Graphic Designer at IBM Corporation and at Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Eric began his teaching at Iowa State University, and was the Senior Visiting Design professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign prior to joining the OU faculty. He was appointed to the faculty at the University of Oklahoma in 1990. Eric is a second generation Graphic Designer who has studied and worked with a number of significant Graphic Designers including Philip Risbeck, Thomas Coleman, and Paul Rand. Eric has designed over 50 major books and publications in the past several years and recognition has included the Oklahoma Book of the Year Award (design) in 2012 for his design of The Eugene B. Adkins Collection and in 2009 for his design of Placing Memory: A Photographic Exploration of Japanese American Internment; his design of Lanterns on the Prairie: The Blackfeet Photographs of Walter McClintock was a finalist in 2010. Eric has also won the Best In Show Award as well as the Gold Medal for print from the IMPA (2010). Eric's work has also been acknowledged by Graphis, Print Magazine, the Society of Typographic Arts, the American Institute of Graphic Arts as well as by others. He has lectured widely and has been a visiting designer at Birmingham Institute of Art in the UK and at Renmin University in Beijing.

Eric was elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) in 2012. He has served AIGA Oklahoma in a variety of capacities over the years and currently serves as the Education Chair.

Eric currently designs for a variety of clients including the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, the OU Press, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, and for numerous other clients within the state and region.

The Visual Communication program has graduates working in nearly every major American market as well as in Hong Kong, UK, China, Japan and Indonesia. The Visual Communications area has nearly a 100% graduation rate and nearly all graduates are working in the Graphic Design field, many as Creative Directors or senior executives.
