NORMAN, Okla. – Ahead of the Sooners’ big win over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, members of the University of Oklahoma Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) took part in the 29th annual Run to Dallas on Wednesday, October 7.

NROTC battalions from OU and the University of Texas ran the game ball from their respective campuses to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. The kickoff ceremony began on the 50-yard line of Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where OU President Joseph Harroz Jr. and OU Head Football Coach Brent Venables delivered remarks before handing the game ball to OU NROTC Battalion Commander Midshipman First Class Gwynneth Wells.

The kickoff ceremony also featured members of the OU Spirit Squad, RUF/NEKS and The Pride of Oklahoma.

Members of the OU and Norman Police Departments and the Norman Fire Department took part in the run alongside the Sooner Battalion. At least two Midshipmen were running at all times while rotating with other students who followed in support vehicles.

Upon their arrival at the Cotton Bowl, the Sooner Battalion met their counterparts from the University of Texas NROTC at the front steps of the stadium before presenting their respective game ball to Cotton Bowl officials.

Following the run, the two NROTC units participated in friendly competitions on a nearby athletics field before gathering for lunch and fellowship as future shipmates in the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps.

This year’s run was also featured on SEC Network as part of SEC Nation on Saturday morning before the game.
