Contribute to the Project

On this page, you can "donate" an object, tell your story, and share your heritage with the Oklahoma Community Heritage Project. Please review ALL instructions carefully before submitting your information below. You do not have to be in Oklahoma to contribute. We welcome submissions from anywhere.

Here is how to contribute to the Oklahoma Community Heritage Project:

  1. Identify an object that either represents or is a part of your heritage (tells us about who you are). Note: we are not physically collecting your artifact! Only the information about it you want to share.

  2. Fill out the “Donation Form” to collect data on your object and “donate” it virtually to the project. Remember to exclude any identifiers and to select a family-friendly object. The data collected on this form will be compiled with answers from others and presented on the website.
    • Optionally, you may take a picture of your object it and submit it to OKPAN, to share on the website. If you would like to do this, please send your photo to Meghan at meghan.dudley@ou.edu.

  3. View the results you have contributed, along with others, and think about the questions:
    • What does the object tell you about that person’s heritage?
    • Why do you think the person selected the object you see?
    • Who do you think uses this object? What function does it serve?
    • What question would you ask the person who donated the artifact if you could? What do you want to know about the object that you cannot learn from looking at it?

  4. Check this website as well as OKPAN’s Facebook and Twitter accounts for other activities!

Project Rules

If you contribute to the project, you must abide by the following rules:

  • Be respectful. Just like archaeological artifacts, there is a real person behind the object that you are viewing and asking questions about. OKPAN staff will be monitoring the project and approving posts, so if your submission is not respectful, it will not be shared.
  • Family-friendly content only! OKPAN is a community for all ages, and this project is no different. Inappropriate content will not be tolerated.
