The energy industry is a global business. Current and future leaders must understand the transition the energy industry is undergoing and strategy, economics, regulatory, financial, and policy decisions from an international perspective.

The Executive MBA (EMBA) in Energy allows students to specialize in hydrocarbons or renewables. The program prepares graduates for leadership roles in these vital and constantly evolving fields. This 36-hour program consists of a 28-credit hour core curriculum and an 8-credit hour specialization in hydrocarbons or renewables. The program culminates with a capstone project in which students synthesize concepts across the curriculum.

Earning an Executive MBA in Energy degree from OU Online gives you the skills to succeed in a growing and evolving field. Tuition and fees for the program are $85,500 ($2,375 per credit hour). Books and additional materials are not included.

Once accepted into the program, students must submit a $350 nonrefundable deposit within two weeks. Deposits are applied toward tuition expenses and secure a student’s place in the upcoming class. There is no application fee for this degree.

Program Breakdown

The program structure encompasses six online modules and three in-person, one-week residencies. Two residencies are on the OU campus (the first and last module), while the third takes place in Europe. 

The international module, which takes place about halfway through the program, is comprised of residencies in Amsterdam and London – both energy-centric locations with global influence. During the residency, students take courses, meet with energy leaders, visit energy companies, and experience local culture.

The cost of this experience is included in the tuition for the program. However, students are responsible for the expenses required to travel to the residency sites.

Program Details

The EMBA in Energy program is highly selective. Applicants are evaluated based on their professional experience, their potential to make rich contributions to the learning experiences of others, and their academic suitability for graduate study. A GMAT or GRE score is not required. 

Applicants should have:

 

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • At least eight years total work experience* including a minimum of three years of significant experience in the management of people, projects, or business units
  • At least two years of work experience in the energy industry related to your selected specialization (hydrocarbons or renewables)
  • Preference for active employment with a renewable energy company, energy-related company, or energy-related work within a company

  • Submit a current resume
  • Provide official college transcripts from all institutions
  • Submit a Letter of Acknowledgement – This should come from the applicant's employer on corporate letterhead. It can be from a supervisor, manager, HR department, etc.  
  • Submit a Personal Statement – To help the admissions committee better understand you, your professional accomplishments, and your career aspirations. 
  • International students may be asked to submit a TOEFL or an IELTS score.

 

*We will consider exceptional students with fewer than eight years of work experience if they can demonstrate high academic and professional accomplishments, responsibility, and achievement.

The admissions committee operates under a rolling admission process, and admissions may continue until two weeks before the start of classes. The committee strives to respond to all applicants within two weeks of submitting a completed application.
