Earn an Advanced Degree While Working Full Time

The University of Oklahoma College of Arts and Sciences now offers an online Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Developed by the Department of Human Relations, this 60-credit hour program can be completed in as few as 30 months.  Graduates are preparing to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)* equipped to help individuals and tackle systemic issues. The program provides a comprehensive curriculum taught through a social justice and multicultural lens.

* This degree is approved by the Oklahoma Board of Behavioral Health Licensure and meets the educational requirements to become a LPC in Oklahoma.  Licensure requirements vary by state and students outside of Oklahoma should review their State Licensure board requirements.

 

As a graduate of the online Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling, students will be able to:

  • Prepare to sit for the NCE exam* by earning a qualifying degree, the clinical hours, and practical skills needed to services today’s mental health needs. 
  • Keep up with a rapidly growing societal need.  The demand for mental health professionals is higher than ever as the stigma surrounding mental health diminishes and healthcare insurance policies continue to expand coverage to include mental health services.
  • Prepare for a growing workforce need.  An increasing number of states require counseling services for offenders in the criminal justice system as attitudes toward mental health evolve.
  • View mental health and mental services through a social justice lens by pursuing solutions to equitable access for marginalized people and groups. 
  • Flexible, Online Format. Join other working adults who take classes online from anywhere in the world from world class OU faculty.  All courses are online; practicum and internship are in person.

The Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling is a fully online program that can be completed in as few as 30 months. It features:

  • 20 courses totaling 60 credit hours
  • A blend of asynchronous coursework and live online class sessions
  • 100-hour practicum and 600-hour internship opportunity (in person per state requirements*)
  • Curriculum viewed through a social justice and multiculturalism lens

Program Details

To apply to our online Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling, students must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university (or appropriate international equivalent).

Applicants must complete the following:

  • Complete the online application at https://gograd.ou.edu/apply/
  • Submit a current resume
  • Provide official transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Submit a personal statement
  • International students must demonstrate English proficiency
  • Submit 2 letters of recommendation
  • Submit answers for 2 short essay questions

We do not require applicants to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). We accept applications on a rolling basis. Applications are reviewed individually.
