Students must have successfully completed the 10th or the 11th grade to be considered for Sooner Discovery.

Sooner Discovery stands out as a prestigious summer pre-college program for several reasons. Participating students are:

  • Linked with outstanding faculty, which prepares them for leadership and academic success in college
  • Able to explore a variety of majors, campus activities, and opportunities to learn how to best present themselves when applying for college and scholarships
  • Assisted in formulating college application essays and resumes by admissions counselors
  • Exposed to a college-level education at a comparatively low price

Sooner Discovery is a premiere program unlike any other in the region. We have developed our program to resemble other distinguished programs across the nation, so we can assure you that Sooner Discovery will be one of the best decisions for you and your future!

Yes. Students have the opportunity to apply for the Financial Assistance Scholarship, which is up to $750 in value. Additionally, Oklahoma high school counselors may nominate one student to receive a $500 scholarship.

Most credits are transferrable to other institutions, but it is up to the discretion of each institution to determine whether credit will be given.

Upon acceptance to Sooner Discovery you will receive information about paying for Sooner Discovery. You can pay online after the program has begun. 

Please note that the Sooner Discovery program fee may not be applied to the student's bursar bill until after the first day of the program, and payments will be due on June 25 of that year.

To officially cancel your registration for the program, please email with your request, name, and OU ID.

You can purchase your textbooks online at We suggest students purchase textbooks before the first day of classes.

Helpful Terms to Know

Here is a list of words used at OU that might be helpful to know during the application, advising, and enrollment process.

Your nine-digit ID number assigned to you when you are admitted.

More commonly known as your 4x4, your OU Net ID, along with your password, will be you log-in for access to OU services.

The “academic home” for all concurrent, freshmen and other students until they have earned 24 college credit hours, declared a major and have met the GPA requirement for the Degree-Granting College the major is housed. University College is also the home to pre-health majors prior to attending the OU Health Sciences Center.

The “academic home” where student pursue specific degree requirements and their major work is completed. After a student has earned 24 credit hours, declared a major and met the GPA requirement of the degree-granting college, their records are transferred from University College to their degree-granting college.

The process of planning a program and selecting courses with assistance from an academic advisor. 

The process of choosing and officially registering in a set of courses for a semester or term.

A common set of courses or categories of courses that are required of all undergraduate students to complete a degree.

The unit of credit for one hour of lecture per week for a semester.

A 16-week academic session. 

Please note – each new semester, students will enroll in a new set of courses.

A requirement, usually credit in another course, which must be met before a particular course can be taken.

A requirement that one course must be taken at the same time as another course. 

Example – some courses may have a lab or discussion that a student must also enroll to earn full credit.

3000 and 4000 level courses. 

1000 and 2000 level courses. 

An examination that is comprehensive in nature or that accounts for a greater proportion of the final grade than an exam given during the semester.

Please note - Final exams may be scheduled for a different time than when the class met during the semester.

The charge paid by all students to enroll in courses at the university. 

A charge paid by students for services, e.g., course fee, student activity fee, health fee, etc.
