EMBA in Energy Alumni Spotlight: Sarah Fenton

Headshot of Sarah Fenton

Sarah Fenton earned her EMBA in Energy in 2019 as a member of Cohort 9. Based in Pittsburgh, she works as the senior vice president of asset performance at EQT Corp., a leading independent natural gas producer.

What was your favorite aspect of the EMBA program and why?

The EMBA program was relevant to today's climate in the energy space and prepares current leaders for the headwinds facing our industry today. Courses were up to date and covered case studies that were recent or in progress and the international immersion forced a global perspective on world energy supply and demand.

How has earning your EMBA affected your career?

Having an EMBA in Energy has given me the tools and dictionary to speak a more business-like language and the ability to understand the financial dynamics that affect our industry.

What advice do you have for navigating change and uncertainty in today’s energy market?

Be a voracious reader, stay in tune with current trends and sentiment toward our industry, in order to see the changing tides before the tsunami hits, to develop a strategy and tactics to set yourself and your company up for success.

What piece of advice do you have for women who desire to excel in the energy industry?

Set a strategy for yourself with clear goals, then get a plan together of what you think you may need to get there — an EMBA should be one of those goals. Get a list of will do's and won't do's pulled together and build a personal board of directors you can bounce ideas off and who can provide meaningful feedback on your tactics. Go get it, girl!
