The OU-Tulsa Police Department has a force of 9 Police Officers, 6 CLEET certified Security Officers, 1 Security Manager, 1 Staff Administrator, and 4 Police and Security Dispatchers.

The OU-Tulsa Police Department’s Dispatch Office is located at the south entrance of the administration building. From this office, we take emergency and non-emergency calls, perform camera surveillance, control the fire safety system, and oversee the building access system. In addition, we distribute parking permits, provide directions, and house the campus lost and found. This area is manned 24/7.

If you feel unsafe walking to your vehicle or to a building, the OU-Tulsa Police Department will provide an escort upon request. This service is encouraged, especially during hours of darkness or after normal operational hours.
Our officers provide vehicle assistance to OU-Tulsa students, faculty, staff, and visitors. We are able to provide assistance with stalled vehicles, however, we are unable to unlock your car.
Lost and found items can be turned in to the Dispatch Office. Items are logged and kept for 60 days.
Proper identification is required when making this request.
Incidents of rape, acquaintance rape and other sexual offenses (forcible or non-forcible) should be reported immediately to the OU-Tulsa Police Department if the offense occurred on the OU-Tulsa campus.
Please call the Tulsa Police Department if the offense occured off-campus.
Prompt reporting will help ensure the preservation of evidence and appropriate medical treatment. The police department will provide law enforcement and investigative services as requested by the victim.
Reports can also be made to the University, which can provide administrative assistance to victims of sex offenses and take disciplinary action against the offender, up to and including expulsion or termination, under the University's Sexual Misconduct, Discrimination and Harassment Policy.

An act relating to the Oklahoma Sex Offenders Registration Act; amending 57 O.S. 2001, Section 583, which relates to registration of convicted sex offenders with local law enforcement; modifying certain definition to include security and police of institutions of higher learning; expanding duties of the Department of Corrections to inform sex offenders of certain requirements; amending 57 O.S. 2001, Section 584, which relates to notification, disclosure of registry and duty to register; including requirement to collect information about enrollment and employment at schools; expanding certain definition to include security or police departments of institutions of higher learning; modifying language; and declaring an emergency. This amendment would require any person who becomes subject to the provisions of the Sex Offenders Registration Act, on or after November 1, 1989, shall be registered if the person:
Among the provisions of this statute is a requirement for each local law enforcement agency (to include campus security) to make its sex offender registry available upon request, without restriction, at a cost that is no more than what is charged for other records provided by the law enforcement agency pursuant to the Open Records Act. The campus community will be notified by the OU-Tulsa Police Department as registrations are received.
Presently there is no charge for a copy of the registry at the Schusterman Center.
Sex offender information is made available to the public pursuant to Oklahoma Law, which requires all convicted sex offenders to register their current address with the local law enforcement agency. The law requires agencies to make that information available to the public.

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections provides a Sex Offender Registry for public viewing. Please remember that only offenders convicted after November 1999 will be included in the sex offender registries.

The Tulsa campus has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which provides evaluation, counseling and referral for faculty, staff, residents and their families through a contract with a community service agency. Student services are provided on campus. Sexual assault and drug and alcohol abuse training programs are available periodically through the EAP. Sexual assault training is also included in the crime awareness program conducted by the OUHSC Police Department. For more information, contact Human Resources at 660-3190.
At home, in an apartment building, or on campus:
Possession, use, and sale of alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs are regulated by state law. The University has articulated a "Policy on Prevention of Alcohol Abuse and Drug Use on Campus and in the Workplace." The policy prohibits illegal use of drugs or alcohol in the workplace, on University Property, or as part of any University- sponsored activity. This and other policies are disseminated in the student and resident handbooks and in the faculty and staff handbooks and at the Human Resources Department in building 1. In accordance with state law, no one other than a commissioned law enforcement officer or armed security officer employed by the State of Oklahoma may carry firearms on campus.
Each person is responsible for his/her own behavior.
Tulsa facilities are normally open during conventional business hours. With the exception of the library, which remains open in the evening and on weekends, security hours begin when buildings are locked at the end of the normal business day and end when building alarms are deactivated and doors unlocked on weekday mornings. Academic and administrative buildings are usually locked no later than 7:30 PM. The clinics are usually locked no later than 6:00 PM. Building alarms on the Sheridan and the Family Medicine Clinic are activated after the janitorial crews finish their work.
We recognize that there will be some need for after hour and weekend access to buildings. After hours and holiday access may be obtained by the use of a valid access card or by presenting your OU Student, Staff or Faculty ID card to the Security Officer at the Dispatch desk. Anyone working late or on weekends should notify the OU-Tulsa Police Department at 660-3900.
The University of Oklahoma-Tulsa does not have campus residences.
The University of Oklahoma - Tulsa campus does not have off-campus organizations or off campus housing facilities.
Police and Security officers perform monthly fire extinguisher checks to ensure all fire extinguishers are properly charged. Police and Security officers monitor the premises for lighting problems or any other physical hazards and promptly submit work orders as needed to the operations department for repairs or replacements. The campus buildings are equipped with card key access and door alarms that are monitored by dispatchers. The Campus is equipped with surveillance cameras located in strategic areas and monitored 24 hours and 7 days.
The OU-Tulsa Police Department has a good working relationship with all neighboring police agencies. We work with and assist the Tulsa Police Department, Tulsa County Sheriff's Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol as requested or needed.
The University of Oklahoma Police Department (OUPD) on the Norman and Health Sciences Center Campuses, in consultation with their campus Vice President of Administration and Finance or his/her designee and the OU-Tulsa Police Department on the Schusterman Center campus in consultation with the OU-Tulsa president or his/her designee, are responsible for issuing Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications to the campus community. The OU-Tulsa Police Department will continuously work and coordinate with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Anyone with information warranting a Timely Warning, Emergency Notification or activating the University’s emergency communications system should report the circumstances to the OU-Tulsa Police Department immediately. The University will issue warnings or notifications as appropriate to keep the campus community informed about safety and security matters on an ongoing basis and to prevent similar crimes from occurring. The decision to issue a Timely Warning or Emergency Notification shall be decided on a case-by-case basis in compliance with the Clery Act and considering all available facts. The notification shall, in the first instance, be based upon whether the crime is considered a serious or continuing threat to students or employees and the possible risk of compromising law enforcement efforts.
Timely Warnings: Timely Warnings are usually issued for crimes to persons or property, including: arson, burglary aggravated assault, criminal homicide, motor vehicle theft, and robbery and sex offenses. Timely warnings also may be issued for other crimes as deemed necessary. Upon receipt of all relevant information, such warningwarnings will, as circumstances warrant, will be issued in a manner to best protect the campus community.
Emergency Notifications: The University of Oklahoma will immediately issue an Emergency Notification to the campus community upon the confirmation of a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students or staff on campus. Warnings may only be withheld if they would compromise efforts to contain the emergency. Confirmation of an emergency means that the OU-Tulsa Police Department and other University officials, as appropriate, will gather and analyze reported facts to verify that a legitimate emergency or dangerous situation exists.
Procedure: When a determination has been made that a Timely Warning or Emergency Notification is appropriate, OU-Tulsa Police Department, Public Affairs and the President’s Office will take all appropriate steps to ensure timely notification of the campus community including, immediately contacting the Assistant Vice President for Public Affairs or hi/her designee to allow for appropriate media distribution. Options for notifying students, faculty and staff include the University’s Emergency Communication System. Additional methods of distribution may include, as appropriate:
Such warning(s) and notifications may include, but are not limited to the following information: type of crime, date, time and location of crime as well as available suspect information.
The OU-Tulsa Police Department maintains a daily crime and incident log containing the nature, date, time, general location, and disposition of crime and incidents that occur on campus. This log is open for public inspection upon request, except where disclosure of such information would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim, or if there is clear and convincing evidence that the release of such information would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation, or the safety of an individual, cause a suspect to flee or evade detection, or result in the destruction of evidence.
The OU-Tulsa Police Department prepares this report to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act. This report is prepared in cooperation with the Police agencies surrounding our main campus and our alternate sites. To comply with the act, we collect crime statistics from the Tulsa Police Department's crime mapping website for campus property owned and controlled by the university, or public property immediately adjacent to campus. Local police agencies where The University of Oklahoma-Tulsa property is located or is nearby provide statistics for the property and a radius around the property requested. These statistics may also include crimes that have occurred in private residences or businesses and is not required by law. The University does not recognize any off campus fraternity or sorority houses. Likewise, student organization recognition does not extend beyond the University, and student organizations are not recognized to engage in activity off-campus.
